IIZUKA NI 14 survey to be published in discussion paper at Socitm Conference 2008

On 13 October at the Celtic Manor Resort, Newport Peter Coates of Sunderland City Council will deliver a discussion paper entitled: 'SOA a necessity to tackle avoidable contact ?"

Service orientated architecture is a relatively new architectural approach that allows business problems to be solved through the coordination of services provided by multiple IT systems. It provides an alternative to the traditional method of directly integrating systems to meet a particular business need. SOA relies on treating systems and services as disparate elements that can be discovered and used in a business process without any of those systems needing to know of the existence of the others.

NI 14 is described as the ‘transformation’ indicator focusing on avoidable contact within the service delivery cycle.

Pete will assess whether a traditional local government technology infrastructure can respond to the NI 14 agenda. As part of that assessment he will ask if a service orientated architecture approach to software is a ‘must-have’ in the context of NI 14.

IIZUKA plans to survey a large number of councils about their response to NI 14 and the results will published along with the paper.
